MEDIA STATEMENT East New Britain Province Governor’s Office
ENB Governor Thanks Community at Guria Gala Ball
East New Britain Governor Hon. Michael Marum has commended the East New Britain community in Queensland for their unity and generosity at the Guria Gala Ball in Brisbane, held as part of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Good turnout not ENB only but people from other provinces as well
Governor Marum thanked President Elsie Lee and her executive team for their leadership and dedication in organising the event, and also acknowledged the attendance of Hon. Jelta Wong, Member for Gazelle.
He said the funds raised would support education and health initiatives in rural areas of the province, helping fill gaps where government services cannot always reach.
“When you give tonight, you are investing directly in the next generation of Papua New Guineans,” he said.
The Governor also extended his appreciation to the people of Australia who continue to support Papua New Guinea through organisations such as Rotary and Lions clubs saying their partnership makes a real difference in the lives of ordinary families back home.
“On behalf of the people of East New Britain, thank you for your generosity and commitment.
You remind us that, no matter the distance, our people remain united in purpose and vision,” Governor Marum said.
The distribution this year focused on grade 9 students, resulting in the delivery of around 300 packs. We express our sincere appreciation to the teachers and students of OLSH Vunapope for their valuable feedback and warm welcome over the past three years, enabling the smooth distribution of sustainable menstrual health solutions to girls in need. We also thank the St Joseph’s and St Michael’s craft group, Maria, and her team for their unwavering dedication to this project.
Congratulations and thank you to Maria and team, St Joseph and St Michael Catholic craft group also everyone who contributed to making the maternity packs project a success. This was extra special as this was the first time reusable pads were included in the packs. A record total of 551 packs were delivered to main hospitals and a further 9 rural health centres who do birthing are Warangoi, Molot, Watnabara, Paparatava, Tapipi, Mope, Gaulim, Napapar and Gelegele.
Thank you talk our friends and family yesterday who assisted with the unpack and distribution of the 40ft container at Vunamami Uniting Church on the 15th July. Very much appreciated.
Thank you to our donors and sponsors.
Rotary and Air Niugini without your support this would not have been made possible. Most importantly our members and the wider community in Brisbane that turn up to our fundraising initiatives. BOINA TUNA
Thank you to all the unpackers – the sorters – the food and drinks suppliers – the logistics coordination- the recipients! A lot goes into a successful unload and distribution of a 40ft hi-top container and we appreciate all that contributed to this day!
We are grateful to Phil and RARE RAWCS for their generous donation of two dental chairs to Nonga Hospital and Kerevat Hospital.
